Episode 2 Rewind | Living Rooms

Web-BTS Project XL-31

WHEN YOU THINK COLORADO, YOU THINK ROCKY MOUNTAINS. HOW DID EACH HGTV DESIGNER TEAM ON ROCK THE BLOCK CAPTURE THESE VIEWS? LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT WEEK TWO, LIVING ROOM FACE-OFF!

This week on Rock the Block covered designing the living room space in the home, entryway and optional extra (or first for some teams) main level powder room. From the minute these HGTV stars entered each home, the high ceilings and mass windows instantly drew you to the mountain views and now this week we got to see how each team captured those views!

Spoiler Alert - Read if you've already been rocking or if you don't mind finding out who took home the extra $2,000 towards next weeks space, Main Suites!

Framing of the Rocky Mountains + WHO WON week two!:

Sitting at the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Heron Lakes at TPC Colorado is the only community in Northern Colorado that offers this close-up of mountain, water and golf course views! So how did each team capture these mural-worthy views? Let's review!

Jon and Kristina | Team Farmhouse Fixer: Coming off a win in week one, Jon and Kristina had an extra $1,000 to spend this week towards their living room renovation. It was important for them to tie in the dark black of the kitchen and dining room into the fireplace, drawing your eye to the ceiling and openness of the room and out towards Lonetree Reservoir. They made the decision to change out the standard double doors to an accordion style and use the same thick wood planks on the ceiling as their kitchen and dining room to create more of a cozy feel to the space. The bi-fold accordion doors and large ceiling level windows are all framed in black, which brings your eye from the fireplace to the views, perfectly in frame!

Page and Mitch | Team Fix My Flip: Playing on color and texture, Team Fix My Flip boasted contrasting light wood and dark accents, accomplishing the goal of bringing standing attention to the Rocky Mountain views. The choice of a light cedar wood on the ceiling which flows into the mass light colored library built-ins and contrasting dark porcelain floor to ceiling fireplace was simply brilliant! What we found really interested and truly loved is that while this team also adopted the bi-fold accordion doors framed in black, they chose to keep the framing around the mass windows at the top of the A-Frame ceiling white. This allows your eye to be drawn to the dark black of the wine racks from week one that lead into the dining room and offer more extended views of the mountains. The fine details put into this weeks space allowed Page and Mitch to come out on top with a win in week two and an extra $2,000 to put towards next weeks master suites!

Michel and Anthony | Team Luxe for Less: These two said it so well this week, "create a narrative!" The story of Team Luxe For Less's space reflects who they are and brings the dramatic flare they are known for. Their use of darkness in this space was so interesting and bold with a full dark beetle kill wood ceiling, dark light fixture, framed black windows and bi-fold accordion doors. This concentrated use of darkness against the light wood flooring, marbled white and light grey horizontal fireplace and solid white walls, bring your eyes from the ceiling down to the views instantly upon entering the home. Considering the use of indoor and outdoor space with the accordion doors, we loved that this team opted for a swivel chair sitting area just off the accordion doors so that you can blend the feeling of the outdoors inside.

Bryan and Sarah | Team Renovation Island: This week Bryan and Sarah accomplished pulling in the Colorado feel inside their home with their massive full wall stone feature. It was a big risk on their part to spend a large amount on this wall, but they were able to bring the Rocky Mountains indoors perfectly to match their stone feature in the kitchen. When it came to framing the view, Team Baeumler placed a double-sided fireplace at the center of their backdoor entrance to the deck with large French doors along each side. This is the only team that did not adopt the accordion door concept, which makes them stand out against the competition but in the long-term could turn off some buyers who are looking for those more direct views from any location in the space. With that said though, with their layout change in the kitchen from week one turned their double kitchen islands 90 degrees, where you look up from the sink towards direct mountain views and this was the only team to adopt this layout!
